Three days, three parallel tracks \u2013 education, technical, and business and HR \u2013 and a welcoming atmosphere that was already evident at the welcome coffee reception. If your organisation uses Moodle, much of what was discussed in Barcelona relates to decisions you will have to make in the coming months.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"LMS_Contributor_of_the_Year_2026\"><\/span><strong>LMS Contributor of the Year 2026<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the <strong>Moodle Certified Partner Awards<\/strong>, held this year in Barcelona, Moodle recognised us as the partner that has made the greatest contribution to the Moodle LMS project. The award takes three factors into account: innovation, growth and our contribution to the community. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is now the <strong>third year running that we\u2019ve received recognition from Moodle<\/strong>, and this one holds particular significance, because it speaks precisely to what was discussed over the three days: open source is built by many hands. Thank you to Moodle and thank you to the whole community. Using practical examples, she demonstrated how removing barriers drives innovation, improves the customer and employee experience, and leaves the organisation better prepared for what lies ahead. It is the same idea we champion when we talk about accessibility in Moodle: complying with the standard is the starting point, not the end goal.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event brought together many of the key figures driving the ecosystem in Europe: Marie Achour, Fred Dixon, Gill Ferrell, Marc Alier, Philippe Petitqueux, Isaac Marco Blancas, Tiago Santos, Francesc Santanach, Quelic Berga and the team at Moodle HQ, amongst many others.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Your_Data_Your_Infrastructure_On-premises_AI_and_open_analytics\"><\/span><strong>Your Data, Your Infrastructure: On-premises AI and open analytics<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first talk by <strong>Antoni Bertran, CTO of 3ipunt<\/strong>, on Thursday on the technical stage, got straight to the point. More and more organisations want to implement AI and learning analytics in their Moodle, and the quickest way to do this is almost always to send data to an external service. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The session presented an alternative: <strong>AI models run on your own infrastructure and open-source analytics tools<\/strong>, with student and staff data kept in-house. This approach requires more architectural work, but it avoids the fundamental problem facing any privacy policy: once data leaves the organisation, control is relinquished. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"No_Standards_No_Sovereignty_standards_as_a_precondition\"><\/span><strong>No Standards, No Sovereignty: standards as a precondition<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Antoni\u2019s second session, on Friday alongside <strong>Gill Ferrell (1EdTech Europe)<\/strong>, brought together two discussions that are usually treated separately.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The thesis: <strong>without open interoperability standards, sovereignty is impossible.<\/strong> An institution may host its own platform yet remain tied to a single provider if its academic data, credentials or integrations are only compatible with a proprietary format. This is the line of work we have been pursuing at 1EdTech Europe, mapping specifications such as Edu-API and Open Badges against European frameworks, as we previously reported in our coverage of 1EdTech Learning Impact Europe 2026.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:26px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"771\" src=\"https:\/\/tresipunt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/PXL_20261008_154750079-1024x771.jpg\" alt=\"talks_moodlemoot europe\" class=\"wp-image-54268\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.3281599059376836;width:746px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tresipunt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/PXL_20261008_154750079-1024x771.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tresipunt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/PXL_20261008_154750079-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tresipunt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/PXL_20261008_154750079-768x578.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tresipunt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/PXL_20261008_154750079-2048x1542.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/tresipunt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/PXL_20261008_154750079-1536x1157.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<div style=\"height:26px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_we_are_building_together\"><\/span><strong>What we are building together<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond the talks, much of the event\u2019s value lay in seeing European projects progressing simultaneously:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The OpenEU alliance\u2019s Joint Learning Platform<\/strong>, presented by Francesc Santanach (UOC), which faces the challenge of connecting institutions with very different cultures and levels of technological maturity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Personal spaces and the lifelong portfolio,<\/strong> with Quelic Berga\u2019s proposal on who should be responsible for safeguarding each person\u2019s learning history.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Moodle LMS 5.3 and Moodle Workplace 5.3<\/strong>, presented by the Moodle HQ team, and the product roadmap with Marie Achour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:26px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_we_took_away_from_MoodleMoot_Europe\"><\/span><strong>What we took away from MoodleMoot Europe<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We go to these meetings with one question in mind: which aspects of all this are applicable to the projects we\u2019re currently working on. Here\u2019s what we\u2019ve taken away from Barcelona: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>AI in the LMS is no longer discussed as a possibility, but as a decision.<\/strong> It\u2019s not just a matter of ticking a box: you have to choose where the AI runs and who can view your pupils\u2019 data. And that\u2019s decided when the platform is set up, not once it\u2019s already up and running. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Open standards are the cornerstone on which everything else rests.<\/strong> Without them, technological independence lasts only as long as the contract with the supplier.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The European path is being built through partnerships.<\/strong> Between public authorities, universities, partners and Moodle HQ, with a shared goal: to ensure that digital education grows without anyone losing control of their technology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At 3ipunt, we have been working on e-learning projects for over 15 years and, as a <strong>Moodle Premium Partner<\/strong>, we are involved in the forums where these decisions are made.
