Encourage your employees' skills with Moodle

Encourage your employees’ skills with Moodle

The implementation of Moodle or other e-learning platforms in companies to train employees is very common nowadays. These distance-learning platforms have great possibilities and in this article, we are going to talk about how to work on team skills through e-learning. In a previous article, we explained Moodle, the platform without limits.

How to strengthen your employees’ skills

There are very effective tools for managing talent and improving and strengthening job skills, but let’s start at the beginning, what do we mean when we talk about skills?

We speak of skills as the sum of knowledge to develop a certain activity. We can classify them into two types: soft skills and hard skills. The latter, also known as technical skills.

We develop each one of them.

soft skills and hard skills

What are soft skills?

Soft skills are those interpersonal skills that describe how you work and interact with others. These types of skills are probably not known, since we acquire and learn them throughout life through daily interactions with others, such as knowing how to work in a team or being a good communicator. Soft skills are also sometimes equated with personality traits rather than skills, but acquiring these skills is the basis for knowing how to work collaboratively and succeed in the workplace.

Some examples of soft skills most in demand by companies are:

  • Responsiveness
  • Problem solving
  • Leadership
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Adaptability
  • Attention to detail
  • Collaboration
  • Communication skills
  • Creativity
  • Time management
  • Critical thinking
  • Stress management

These are skills with subjective elements, often more difficult to assess, but even so, you can work on them by engaging employees in virtual adventures, gamifying e-learning courses.

Analyze the soft skills of the team

The first starting point for a good strategy is to analyze which soft skills need to be reinforced in the work team. Group dynamics, tests, self-evaluations, etc. can be used for this purpose. With this, we will know where we are starting from in order to develop a successful training process.

Measure the skill level of the employees

After the analysis, it is important to measure the results of the monitoring or tests that have been carried out and to assess the level of each soft skill that your team has. In this way, we can know which skills are more mastered and which need work.

Listening to the team, feedback

It is essential to get feedback from employees. Soft skills are very subjective and sometimes the data are not sufficient to draw conclusions. Therefore, it is highly recommended to have this feedback because they are the ones who know themselves best and know what their strengths are and where they need improvement.

Strengthens the most valuable skills

Working on all skills at the same time is more complex and will probably not achieve the desired results. It is better to choose which ones are important for the company. Subsequently, in other online training, further training can be worked on.

Make the team work on these skills

It is time to elaborate on the training with the conclusions drawn in the previous steps.

Gamification is one of the most widely used tools to work on soft skills, as it allows working on one or more soft skills in a playful way.

At 3ipunt we develop customized gamified content to strengthen these skills.

For this purpose, we develop elearning content and gamified courses where participants must achieve different goals to obtain prizes.

The competitive and fun factor will make workers more motivated and, almost without realizing it, they will acquire the skills they have decided to work on, which will bring great benefits to the companies.

What are the hard skills?

We know as hard skills those for which we can be specifically trained. These are the most traditional competencies.

They can usually be quantified and are skills that we have learned and improved with a lot of effort. Hard skills can sometimes be specific to the job we do, or the position or level we are in.

Some examples of hard skills are:

  • Web programming. Learning programming languages
  • Accounting skills
  • Language skills
  • Marketing and business knowledge
  • Oral expression
  • Graphic design
  • Data analysis tools
  • Knowledge in administrative software

Similarly, these skills can be worked with e-learning platforms, designing training courses that strengthen these hard skills.

Moodle education is very useful to reinforce the skills of work teams, since it is a competency-based education, allowing one to structure these in customized learning plans.
